where spirituality and sustainability intertwine

Yasodhara Ashram has a goal of being carbon neutral by 2013 and this has made me reflect on sustainability. I’m starting to feel that daily stability and long-term sustainability are deeply intertwined. I see the ashram as an excellent example of a socially sustainable community.

Alanda Greene writes about the sweet offerings of taking time off from our busy lives and spending time going within. This time can be for anyone, especially for those with families. The community of Crawford Bay has recently constructed a new Leeds Gold Standard public school which offers children an inspiring space to learn in. Think about it, stepping out of the fast pace of daily life, slowing down to listen to the wisdom that awaits within and knowing that your family can be there with you.

October 24th is the day for Climate Change Action. Scientists tell us that 350 parts per million of CO2 in our atmosphere is the safe limit for humanity. The current level is 387. The United Nations will soon be hosting it’s annual meetings on climate change in Copenhagen with the intent of creating a “comprehensive, ambitious and fair international climate change deal.” This year, many organizations have banded together to give citizens of the planet a voice as these discussions are going on. The organization is known as 350.
