  1. Free Ticket to Compassion: Meeting With the Dalai Lama

Recently I experienced the presence of the Dalai Lama – in Calgary’s huge Saddledome, alone in what they refer to as “the nose bleed section” high up in the rafters, 18,000 or so people seated below me, between His Holiness and myself.
He is indeed a “simple monk” to use his words. He is simple and profound. In this huge, diverse crowd of people I’m sure I could have heard a pin drop as he spoke about compassion.
Three aspects of his presence especially touched me personally and I list them below, not in his precise words but from my personal understanding:
    1. The Dalai Lama said that even the most hardened criminal has at least a spark of compassion within – we all do. Why? he asked. “Because we all had a mother” he said, in the breathless silence.
    2. “Compassion is not always sweet, it can be harsh. Ask a good parent” said the Dalai Lama.
    3. The Dalai Lama focused on the youth and after his talk gave them an opportunity to ask him questions – suggesting they ask “intelligent questions”.  Which they did.  When the Master of Ceremonies tried to speed things to a conclusion, as is the Calgary way, the Dalai Lama held up his hand and said: “We will have time for more questions from the young people”.
Throughout my time in his presence, way up high in the rafters, my mind would flow back and forth to Swami Radha; Swami Radhananda; Yasodhara Ashram and then the Dalai Lama’s words.
I knew as I have before, how simple and true our connection is, in the One Light.
I know how blessed and privileged I am to be who i am, in Swami Radha’s teachings, in the work I embrace – connected with compassion in love and ligh

Yasodananda-2-This summer, Yasodhara Ashram added a new workshop to it’s summer offerings.  Developed by Swami Yasodananda, a long time devotee of Swami Radha’s and a student of classical East Indian dance, participants explored and reflected on the sacred dance of the Kundalini Mantras.  I met with Yasodananda on the deck of Mandala House at the Ashram one beautiful August morning to learn more about her process of developing this sacred dance and the workshop itself. Peaceful-landscapeAlanda Greene writes about the sweet offerings of taking time off from our busy lives and spending time going within.  This time can be for anyone, especially for those with families. The community of Crawford Bay has recently constructed a new Leeds Gold Standard public school which offers children an inspiring space to learn in.  Think about it, stepping out of the fast pace of daily life, slowing down to listen to the wisdom that awaits within and knowing that your family can be there with you.

Years ago I decided that Hidden Language Hatha Yoga wasn’t for me. I have quite a logical mind and I didn’t get how doing yoga while answering questions would help me. I never reflected back on that decision until a few weeks ago when I decided to take the Hidden Language Hatha Yoga teacher certification course. It was quite a blessing for me to be part of that training. During the course my logical mind made space and I had a glimpse of my next steps, a glimpse of who I am beyond the mind. This process of opening started in the middle of a morning Hidden Language class… (more…)
