YAS-construction-1Yasodhara Heights is the latest building project underway at the Ashram. Swami Sivananda gives us an update on the construction of the first cabin.

Yasodhara Heights is the Ashram’s newest community that offers the benefits of spiritual community while at the same time independent living.  The houses under construction will be built with state of the art features that lower our carbon footprint, i.e. super insulation- walls at R38 and ceilings at R52, while most homes are around R13.  Other sustainable plans in the construction include: solar heated domestic water and radiant floor heating, a heat recovery ventilated air system ensuring quality air exchange, use of local wood and a steel roof.  Allan Hughes, the builder and designer says that he is considering each component in the buildings construction in a sustainable way.

This new development is located on a mossy perch with a  view of Kootenay Lake and the Selkirk mountains.  Yasodhara Heights offers friends of the Ashram optional spaces to live in while at the same time the opportunity to be in the Light of the Ashram and experience the teachings i.e. Satsang, Karma Yoga, weekly classes and workshops.

Swami Sivananda, the project manager has been keeping Lightwaves posted on the developments of the house construction on the Heights. Here is what he had to say…

YAS-construction-2October 23, 2009: “Big day today! The concrete was poured finishing the foundation work and about an hour later the power company came to make the electrical hookup. As you can see in these photos, the concrete was put in place with a pumper truck which is fast and efficient. The fellow in the orange with the white hard hat on the right has the remote control for the pump truck and he and Allan were talking back and forth to regulate the flow. It was all very calm and seemingly effortless even though it was a busy morning for the crew.

YAS-Construction-4So the foundation is done! The power connection will be a big help for the operation of construction tools and for temporary heat as the building progresses. Allan is planning on starting the floor on Monday and the walls by the end of the week or early next week. We are meeting Sunday to finalize the windows and roofing.

From a Kundalini perspective this is so perfect–the foundation is in and the power connected! The synchronicity on this project continues and today especially so.”
