Getting grounded in a sustainable way

geo_1.jpgUsing the ever present heat of the ground, Mandala House will be warmed by renewable energy.

Mandala House is getting grounded – literally. Drilling is underway to establish 8 holes, each 325 feet deep and these holes will be the heat source for Mandala House. The earth will provide enough heat to keep the building warm during the winter, and keep it cool during the peak of summer.

All this is accomplished through the ingenious technology of heat pumps. For an explanation of how this works and to view a video of the work in action, click here.

geo_2.jpgThis project is the Ashram’s major capital investment this year towards reducing our environmental footprint. As well, it moves us closer to our goal of becoming carbon neutral. Projected costs for this project are upwards of $110,000. None of this could be accomplished without the support of our donors. By becoming part of the Circle of Sustainability, you contribute to the Swami Radha’s vision for this work and take a significant step in curbing the anticipated devastating effects of global climate change.
