Janet and the RYYO crewTwenty-three people crowded into the Ottawa Radha Yoga Center the evening of Friday, April 3rd to “Rest in Light and Breath,” learning how simple it can be to reconnect with the body, mind and our ideals.

“It seems so simple! When I think into my feet, I feel more stable!”

“Practicing ‘I am functioning from my centre’ really got me out of my busy, buzzie mind and calmed me down. This is so useful.”

“Community is what sustains me AND what drains me if I don’t give myself time for solitude and my practices.”

These are a few testimonials of people who participated in a weekend of workshops offered by senior Yasodhara Ashram teacher Janet Gaston in Ottawa in early April. Her workshops left the Ottawa Radha Yoga Centre (ORYC) community inspired and equipped with practical solutions to face our daily challenges.

On Saturday, April 4th, sixteen of us learned more about “listening to the heart – hearing the still small voice within.” Using Hidden Language Hatha Yoga, we discovered new ways to allow the heart to bring us to a greater taste of freedom. As one participant said, “I thought I was going to be dealing with another issue entirely but this is the one that came up. I can see now how my anger can be transformed and I can turn this situation around.”

And we continued! Sunday, April 5th, thirteen of us looked into “Sustainability: inside and out,” discovering what sustains us and recognizing what gets in the way. A participant had this realization: “The energy is constant. It can’t be created or destroyed. Much of my energy goes to supporting a personality aspect that is very unhelpful. I can make other choices.”

Janet’s visit was capped off with a potluck supper and an evening of bhajans on Sunday night. The ORYC community and lots of old friends came to see their former teacher and offer thanks for all that they’ve been given through Swami Radha’s work. We’re left with increased awareness, a deeper connection and a new playfulness: lightened and enlightened. We’ve learned more about listening to the deep small voice within and finding our own truth.

Janet’s workshops raised over $2,400 in much needed funds for the Radha Yoga Youth Outreach (RYYO) program in Ottawa. Five years old now, RYYO is a program run by a team of 6 young adults trained at Yasodhara Ashram, offering yoga to Ottawa youth faced with challenging life circumstances. Currently RYYO is looking for a full time enthusiastic Outreach Coordinator to offer classes to marginalized youth in Ottawa. For more information contact the RYYO Program Coordinator Jessica: yogaforyouth@ca.inter.net or call 613 236 3545. To find out more about RYYO’s programs or to donate visit www.ryyo.org

Thank you Janet and to the Ashram community for opening up this opportunity!
