Feb. 21 - everyone waves hello! The Ashram is always looking for new ways to strengthen our connection with members of our widespread global community.  So, we’ve recently started a new tradition – digital bhajan nights!  Read on for reviews and information on how you can participate.

On January 24th, 2009, Yasodhara Ashram hosted our first digitally interactive bhajan night! On this historic occasion, 8 “virtual” guests joined us in the Radha Room via Skype, which allowed us to have a 2-way visual and audio link with them.

There was an overwhelmingly positive response from all those who participated.  Michael McCarthy who joined us from Ottawa commented: “I felt like I was back at the ashram – transported to a sacred space full of light… Your smiles really lifted my heart and I felt so close to my spiritual family.”  Sharon Cross joined us from Cranbrook and commented: “As one of the several people who had the opportunity to sign on to the Virtual Bhajan night, I’d like to say how wonderful it was to be able to be there, to sing along with such a large company of gurubais.  It was so much like being there.  Very connecting.  Very sweet.

Feb. 21 - digital bhajan night #2Our second digital Bhajan night took place on February 21.  In response to feedback about the need for better sound quality and also to be able to include more people than the limited number of laptops here would allow, we tried a new approach.  We streamed the whole thing live on the internet using a web TV site called Justin TV, and those who joined us from afar were able to respond and make requests via a chat window in the site.

rachel-darishmaOur next digital bhajan night is in the works – news of the date and time will be posted on Radhaweb as well as on our facebook page. Please join us to share in the light of community togetherness and devotion!  Simply go to www.justin.tv/yasodhara, the password is light.

  1. This is so great! It charged me up for days to be able to be a part of the skype bhajan night. As “different” as the sound quality was, it still brought me into all the sacred and cherished feelings that are so present when I’m actually at the ashram.
The second, streamed bhajan night, we were having a house party for kevin (lennox)’s birthday and we had the computer plugged into the stereo. I felt so proud of what I’m involved in to be able to point at the screen to answer the question, “So how do you guys know each other?”
Thank you for this effort to spread out the magic of the ashram.

  3. I was moved to tears seeing you all … even for just a minute on this video. I loved the way each on-line person had their own chair!!! I didnt manage to respond to my alarm to get up at 3.30 am to join you for the night. Wish I had! I see that a visiting Swami in the past gave Bhajan sessions in the afternoon. Any chance of an early pm Bhajan session for us Brits to join in with … I reckon I could stay up till late and then sleep beautifully after some devotional singing (PS just to remind you we are 8 hours ahead of you). I AM SO GRATEFUL TO YOU ALL FOR THE HARD WORK YOU PUT INTO LIGHTWAVES AND HELPING US IN THE OUTSIDE WORLD TO KEEP LINKED TO THE ASHRAM. Thank you xxx

  4. Hi Sue!! Thank you for all your wonderful comments, it is always so good to hear from you and know that you’re out there receiving and giving the Light! In response to the time-scenario… I will bring forward the afternoon Bhajans idea to Rebecca (Dale) who’s been co-ordinating the digital bhajan nights… we’ll see! In lieu of getting to watch live though, you should know that the justin TV site (www.justin.tv/yasodhara) actually SAVES clips of the broadcasts – I just went on, and there are 3 saved clips, the longest one is about 15 minutes. The password to enter the site is light. It’s not the same as getting to watch live and make requests, but I think something comes through anyways. Again, thanks so much for keeping connected, Sue. Much Light to you.
