Poet's Corner

Gord McGee, YDC 2008 graduate, snagged the unnoficial title of Ashram Poet Laureate when he read two of his poems at the New Year’s talent show. We’ve included his poetry here for your reading pleasure.

Written October 25th or so, 2008; while viewing the variety of people on the TTC Bloor subway platform in Toronto.

The TTC Flower Shop

“We are all just flowers,
brilliantly un rooted,
able to float freely
through the breezes of life,
unfolding,
blooming,
spreading our seeds,
sharing our colours,
moving as mirrors
reflecting the beauty grounded around us.

We are unconfined, yet rooted in air,
nourished by water
and fed by the abundance of life.

Withering gently as we dance
across the surface of the earth,
until our petals drop
in winter’s embrace”

Written October 26th or so:

Drips

There is a waterfall of gold outside my window
it is snowing leaves, gently
how does the tree know to release them just so?
and the wind to make it flow like a river?

not all at once do we catch these times
they are just passing by
gold for the tasting
like a snowflake
on the tongue

The snow will become silence
the tree barren
the waterfall will cease to exist
frozen in emptiness

and I will sit here, waiting, resting, listening,
listening,
for the drip, drip, drip
of a new life,
beginning
